Project Concept

Inferis is a User Interface design project focusing on creating a functional UI for a 3D horror game.


Game high concept

Inferis is a 3D horror game set in the Underworld ruin, where the player is trying to rescue his lover from death and escape the Underworld. In the game, the player will have to solve the mystery to uncover the secret of the ruin in order to find where his lover is captivation, while actively avoid ‘The reaper’ that’s trying to capture your soul.

Interface map & flow

Summary

The menu interface will be 3D animate environment background with a minimalistic UI element and creepy aesthetics. All pointer will be animate using a particle system to follow the chosen button. The menu will also have a creepy music box background as audio and a low cracking / screaming ambient sound.


Title/Main Screen

  The title screen will contain a 3D environment background with particle effects and some lighting effects that's trying to give out a very creepy and realistic feel of the game.

  I am going with a minimalistic UI having the Logo of the game on the top right of the screen with a choice in the dark corner of the screen. With the signifier for when the button got hover, there will be an animation on the selected button.

  For the 3D environment background, I will be using the asset I made in my CG125 class to create an animate background environment.

Save & Load menu

The save and load menu is the pop-up slot that contains save the information and lets the player start from the save point rather that start from the beginning.

Option menu

The options screen is a pop-up menu that will blur out the background environment and give the player the option to interact with the game's settings. The options menu is filled with a radio button slider bar and dropdown buttons element. Options pop-up boxes are designed to be simplistic in minimalistic style.

Pause Menu

When pressing the pause game or ESC button the game screen will start slowly blur and the pause menu will lerp in from the right-hand side of the screen hovering on top of the buttons we also glow in the same way other button on the menu glow.


Credits Scene

Since the Main menu is 3D, I decided to also have credits scene 3D as well for the consistency of the project.

Research & Reference

The Last of Us

The last of us is a 3D action-adventure game, with a realistic visual style and a minimalistic UI element. What interest me about this UI is how the minimalistic element gives the 3D environment more meaning. The UI looks very simple, elegant, and consistence that is just give out a very emotional impact to the player

Skyrim (MOD)

Skyrim is 3D adventure game with so many things to do and most MOD in the MOD world,  What make me interest about this MOD is a unique design of the shape of the UI and the simple yet elegant signifier for the selection choice.

My Beautiful Paper Smile

My Beautiful Paper Smile is a 2D horror game with a pencil drawing art style. What inspired me about this main menu is how they make a creepy environment out of something we should feels normal about it. By using color scheme, texture, and lighting to reflex on emotion that they intend to give out to the players.
